Alright, that was some major lack of update there. I don't know why I'm so busy, it just seems that I always have more things I need to do / procrastinate on than I have time for... so for those who are interested, there is a laundry list of to do after the blog.
Anyhow I've wanted to talk about these two topics for a while now, basically the principle that I have followed all my life, MLEP, and a little bit about Torrent Etiquette because the lack of seeders was pissing me off last time I tried to d/l some, hmm...stuff.
The MLEP is perhaps the single most important principle in my (or, a) happy and lazy life. This principle was established by yours truly (thus, MISHELL's Least Effort Principle, durh), and may coincide with other principles or whatnot. In fact, you may be adhering to it without even knowing it! That's why I'm here to credit myself today. Actually, as Confucius once said: "Why stand when you can lean, why lean when you can sit, why sit when you can lie down?", MLEP is simply an inspiration of such ancient wisdom.
Basically, MLEP dictates that you need to find the easiest way, requiring least effort, to accomplish any task. The second rule is that one should ride the bell-curves of life at slightly above average. Thirdly, it's not exact, but whenever you feel that marginal compensation declines versus effort, stop.
Real life application:
Tomorrow is Monday and it's Mishell's tax final. She needs to only pass to get a B+ (wouldn't need to study for this), but would need to score 90 to get A (study a full afternoon and part of the evening maybe).
MLEP dictates that if B+ is an above average (or even average) score, Mishell will be napping and blogging through her Sunday and telling everyone how stressed she is about tomorrow's final. Actually, she will end up with B+ and if anything above, that's just gravy.
Of course, if you are an innate overachiever (or just achiever, really) and feed on the sad faces of losers, then people like me are counting on you to run the world.
It all works out!
Sidenote - Google has not understood MLEP. The tabbed browsing and gtalk don't make a happy marriage. Whereas in MSN, I can alt-tab between different conversations and then the browser, I need to ctrl-tab to go back to gmail tab for gtalk convos. Since alt-tab is easier to execute than ctrl-tab, here's my wag of the finger to Google.
I'll probably remember more but there you go, secret to my happy underachieving life.

That is all.

Weekly / recent obligations, as promised
- Chat on MSN about the Habs (EFF YEAH!), never-happening trumpet CD/Playlist (another blog), celebrity gossips, my pathetic life in Toronto.
- Laundry. It takes forever and costs money, and needs sorting and folding and all that crap. When are we going to start accepting the fact that nature had intended us to be naked?! Well, except for Winter and Ugly people
- Dishes and Cooking, bah.
- Reading - loving Superfreakonomics now, my most recent "coup de coeur" non-fiction. For fiction, I liked City of Thieves. Thumbs down for Lost Symbol.
- Human physical needs - eat, sleep, poop, etc.
- New Place! Mortgage! Moving! Budget! OMFG!
- Looking for things I lose (notebook, cellphone, keys, wallet, purse, cloths, socks - You name it, I lose it).
- Commute. WASTE. OF. TIME. Screw you Burt Bacharach, the world doesn't need more love. It needs Teleportation.
- ... work, I think?
- Painting class takes away one exhausted weeknight in the middle of the week. The art produced under these circumstances is often... well how should I put it... "ugly"? Yeah sounds about right...
- Blogs. What else? I LOVE YOU TOO READERS.
- Sports... not that I do any of them. But I watch Habs or football when I have stake in it and can find a hilarious Chinese or Dutch live streaming of NFL....
- I can't think of anything else, probably also meeting up with people for dinners.
That being said, I don't have time for to read online articles anymore, nor listen to podcasts and play piano and games, and of course do exercise. But as I am typing them, I don't really feel like doing any of them... humpf...
omg.. you rock.. totally made my day.. and i love you too (your only reader) hahahaha
ReplyDeleteseriously making my post look like shit.. i need to get back on the sarcasm wagon.. seemed to have fell off and can't get back on it
